Press statement by the AFL-CIO:

Today, the Executive Council of the AFL-CIO unanimously voted to support the United Steelworkers and their members in their unfair labor practice strike against U.S. oil refineries.  The Executive Council pledged the moral and material support of the AFL-CIO, its affiliated unions, and its state and local labor councils to the Steelworkers, their families and communities in this struggle.

Memo to AFL-CIO state, area, and local central bodies

            Today, the AFL-CIO Executive Council, meeting in Atlanta, received a report from the United Steelworkers and North America’s Building Trades Unions confirming their resolution of certain jurisdictional issues affecting oil refinery work.  A copy of a Joint Statement that the two organizations have issued on this subject is attached.

Following this report, the Executive Council unanimously adopted a statement pledging to support the United Steelworkers and their members in their unfair labor practice strike against U.S. oil refineries.  The Executive Council pledged the moral and material support of the AFL-CIO, its affiliated unions, and its state and local labor councils to the Steelworkers, their families and communities in this struggle.
