Brothers and Sisters, We received a few questions regarding issues that scabs have called and shared information with our members which Shell is sharing with them, everything from Legal information to benefit information. I have been asked to respond:
Q: Why are scabs calling me?
A: Their purpose is to try to get you to cross the picket line and spread misinformation. In doing so, they may be trying alleviate their guilt.
Q: Where are they getting their information?
A: I believe that Shell HR and Management are feeding the scabs misinformation in an effort to confuse and scare you. If a scab does call you saying management told them something regarding the strike, please ask the name of the Supervisor and when they spoke with them.
Q: Is this an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike?
A: Yes, this is an Unfair Labor Practice strike. We have filed ULP's in response to some of the company's actions which the Union believes are illegal. Because this is an ULP strike, you can't be permanently replaced.
Q: Is the company going to lock us out?
A: We don't know who is spreading this rumor but you should know that in the event that the company locks out bargaining unit employees, then you will be eligible for unemployment benefits and all those that have crossed the picket line will also be locked out and will not be allowed to work. Additionally, in the event of a lockout, you can't be permanently replaced. but once again I am sure they would not be discussing plans with scabs.
Q: What's the best way to get accurate and timely information?
A: The best way to get accurate information is to come to the Union Hall or call the strike line that we set up. That phone number is (832) 517-9311
